Sculptor Galaxy

The Sculptor Galaxy, (aka Silver Coin Galaxy, Silver Dollar Galaxy, NGC 253, UGCA 13, PGC 2789 and Caldwell 65) is one of the brightest galaxy in sky, surpassed only by the Andromeda Galaxy. However, with a declination of -25, the Sculptor galaxy remains pretty low on the horizon for most Northern observers. Even for Moana, at 30 degrees of latitude, airmass and less than perfect seeing prevented many nights of imaging, and I could go after it on perfect nights only, and for a few hours at a time when the galaxy was at the highest altitude.

Of interest, on top of the galaxy and its very fine structure, are the satellite galaxies NGC 247, PGC 2881, PGC 2933, Sculptor-dE1, and UGCA 15.
